What can I expect at my first session?

At your first session, you will have an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. Then, I will ask you some questions to get to know you better. Feeling a bit nervous is completely normal at your first session. Most clients tell me they find the hour goes by very quickly. It’s normal for many clients to feel more comfortable after a few sessions.

Can I benefit from counseling?

If you are motivated and invested in your therapy you will definitely benefit. Reasons to come to counseling can include feeling out of sorts, struggling in relationships, low self-worth, needing support through a major life transition, or to manage symptoms. Counseling can also be beneficial if you need an objective voice to assist in furthering your personal growth.

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?

Medication by itself, without the proper coping mechanisms, is not enough. What medication does is treat the symptoms. Our work together is designed to explore the root of the issue, dig deep into your behavior and learn strategies that can help you accomplish your personal and/or relational goals.

Medication can be effective and is sometimes needed in conjunction with therapy.

How long will I have to be in therapy?

You may come in with specific goals and we will work together to achieve those goals at a pace you feel comfortable with. Or, you may feel more vague and want to achieve your goal of feeling better over time. I will give you feedback on where I think you are in the process. My hope for you is to be able to use all the skills you have learned and feel confident to live life on your terms.

How often should I be coming to therapy?

I usually recommend that you come in every week initially. It helps to develop rapport and get your therapy into a flow. After that, every 2 weeks seems to work well. After a time, you could come in once a month for maintenance or to have accountability toward your goals. I’ll work on a plan that makes sense for you.

Am I abnormal because I am coming in to counseling?

NO. Everyone needs support at different times during their lives. There are life events, transitions, or emotions that can feel too big to handle on your own. Counseling is here to help support you through those times, and to help you realize your best life.

What are your fees?

Individual counseling, 50-minute session $150

Couples Counseling, 50-minute session $175

Sessions longer than 50 minutes are charged at additional time pro rata.

Can I use my insurance to pay for sessions?

Jamie Daniel-Farrell is paneled with Path Mental Health in California. Path takes most forms of insurance with the exception of a few. I am paneled with Aetna in Colorado. For all other insurance, I am an out-of-network provider, and am happy to provide a SuperBill each month for you to collect possible reimbursement benefits. Please contact your provider to verify how your plan compensates you for psychotherapy services.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you are unable to attend a session, please make sure you cancel at least 24 hours beforehand. Otherwise, you may be charged for the full rate of the session.

How do I pay?

I accept major credit cards, health savings accounts, and Zelle as forms of payment.
